PuppetSoup were delighted to be awarded a grant from the Welsh Government through Fusion (Caerphilly and Torfaen) to deliver a set of workshops called ‘My Friend at Home’.

Working with Christine Smith, PuppetSoup created puppetry packs to send to schools for key workers and vulnerable children who attend the Hub Schools during the Covid Crisis.

The workshops ensured that children had all the materials they needed to make a lovely and durable puppet to put together in a specially hand made pack.

Each class then had a lively and fun online workshop with the two directors of PuppetSoup, Cass and Fagner, where lots of puppets met the children over the internet and the children were guided through how to build their puppet friend and create puppet shows for their households.

Having an online class was a first for many of the children and making it fun and memorable was an important outcome for the project.

Christine Smith coordinated all the schools and PuppetSoup provided all the packs, designed the worksheets and delivered the workshops from their puppet making workshop.

The project ensured that children from all backgrounds who attended the hub schools had the opportunity to have the same materials and undertake a fun activity that allowed them to have a quality puppet to take home and keep as a ‘Friend at Home’.

Each child had their own pack to ensure social distancing could be maintained. Packs contained various arts and crafts materials in addition to worksheets.
